Hi from learning@school! My daughter just loves the Lemony Snicket books.
The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich is hilarious! Weather in Rotorua is fantastic:)
My kids favourite book is "The 27th Annual African Hippopotomus Race..... by I can't remember. Its a younger person's chapter story.
my children in my class enjoy reading and participating in the books where they decide the next event in the story - puzzle books... they choose the next page they go to and therefore have to think about which option they would like to go along with (and whatever storyline unfolds from each decision)
My daughter is 3 1/2 and she is an avid reader. She is working her way through the Scholastic Early reading books and she loves the fact she can 'READ'
My kids are really enjoying The Giver. Much food for thought!
Hi from me at Learning school in Rotorua. I love this chance to make a comment. I think this site is great! Well done!
Hi recently my gran childern came home from Australia and discovered Nicky Nacky Nno by Joy Cowley. They simply loved the repetitive nonsense and on returning home to Australia they tool this book to enjoy on the plane.
Cheers Pauline
I have just read a book called Frozen Fire by an English author called Tim Bowler. Perfect for y7 and upwards boys!!
Anything by Anthony Browne, or one of my favourite's - Robert Munsch! I find as long as I'm enthusiastic about the books it's infectious!
Does anyone know of any pick-a-path books? I remember them from when I was younger but can't find any in book stores for my little brother!
Myclass enjoy all the R.Dahl books. The Twits is a good book to start the year with younger students.
I love the book marks we have been given.
I loved Judy Blume and just read lovely article about her in the Saturday herald.
my students are really hooked on sci- fiction and fantasay
On behalf of the committee and all of those that attended this workshop I just want to thank Diana for all her hard work & for introducing us to another means of encouraging readers within our class, opening networks and communication with other poeple via the web, and giving us the opportunity to experiment first hand another aspect of the National Library and what is available to us as teachers and as individuals that enjoy reading.
Well I am not at learning@school I am actually at school but Navigators and I are reading!!!!
We are deeply into Jack Lasenby, Gavin Bishop, Margaret Mahy, Patrica Grace, Joy Cowley ... see a theme here? Yes - we are getting into NZ authors and I am LOVING seeing the children discover authors I had thought they would know and love already!

Hi from Learning at School 08!
I can't go too far past the Hairy Maclary books - rhythm, rhyme, repitition, rich words. When the adults beside you can recite them by heart too, you know they're goodies!
My kids love- Don't let the pigeon drive the bus-- simple but so graphic..

We are enjoying the latest books that Robin Kerr is writing in her World Secret Service series. Of course we are pretty hooked on NZ fiction at our school and the first book is reviewed here:

Last week I read The Emperor of Absurdia by Chris Riddell to all my classes in the library. The kids were just spell-bound. Its a book that you can re-read and do fantastic artwork from.
This week I have read "Mr muggs the library cat" to each class. The book was enjoyed by all age groups. Gorgeous illustrations.
I read "Big Chickens"/Leslie Helakoski to a new entrants-year 4 class. Most of the children were from rural backgrounds and they all loved the chicken power those 4 chickens got after overcoming their fears. The chickens when through a variety of situatins until they got 'chicken guts'. A big impact that inspired amazing artwork and great stories told.
Rory is 21 months old and his favourites at the moment are 'Rumble in the jungle' by Giles Andrae, 'Time for bed' by Mem Fox and 'Green hat, blue hat' by Sandra Boynton, which makes him howl with laughter every time we read it, and we read it a lot! He also loves anything with tigers, giraffes, diggers or dogs.
Remember the good old classics - The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, and a super newer one by Michael Morpurgo, The Amazing Story of Aldophus Tips. Both of these are great reads to Year 4s.
Hi,
My son is 3 yrs, 8 months. When I dropped him off at daycare this morning the teacher said "Bryn is so into books". Yippee!! Mum's a happy librarian.
Bryn really loves Richard Scarry books, jigsaw puzzles, DVDs. So much for him to look at and discover. He is in the "why" phase so I'm having to come up with lots of explanations for questions I don't always have answers to!
