New Zealand Post Book Awards finalist - junior fiction category

The Mad Tadpole Adventure by Melanie Drewery, illustrations by Jenny Cooper

Maddie has an “amazing tadpole” – amazing because she started off all “round and fishy”, and the next day she had two back legs. Of course Isabella Princess Big Eyes grows into the inevitable frog and the story continues…..

Junior primary children will certainly laugh at this humourous story about Maddie’s active imagination and her love for her pet.

Jenny Cooper’s illustrations are a perfect match for the story.

Thanks Eric. I'll check with our Schools staff whether school libraries are using WorldCat, and if so, we'll definietly look into adding these links.

The Mad Tadpole Adventure. I liked this story as you couldn't call it a comedy, adventure, mystery or romance as it was all of these things. At the beginning it captures the reader's attention by telling you its exciting and all the the listed above. The writer has written the story as if she was a young girl called Maddie and she has captured the idea well, as I was drawn to it as it even sounds like a young girl's mind that misunderstands things. I wanted to read on and find out what happened to Princess Big Eyes. There were cool sketches that went with the story and showed how Maddie was feeling.
