This book is a nice size and has great photographs of spiders which would make it really easy for someone to take it home and identify the spiders in their home.
It was very interesting to hear Andrew Crowe speak on his recent visit to Blenheim promoting the book awards.
I was especially intrigued about his living in a cave to get closer to nature !
I think it was fantastic for the kids to hear how a non-fiction author follows his interest and passions.
We had an amazing array of spiders ( children in dress up ) at the quiz night, obviously inspired by this book.

The boys in Room 18 love this. The illustrations in particularly.
We loved looking through this book as a class. Very interesting information and great pictures. The children chatted alot about white-tailed spiders before we got to the library and were really interested learning more about these small creatures. A fantastic book that can be easily read and looked through.

This is a great book to use with a junior secondary class when talking about how a non-fiction book has a purpose and what how it achieves that purpose. When looking at identification, we looked at how the chapter headings and pictures helped to figure out where to start looking for a spider we might have in our bathroom. Also able to talk about how he uses real life size illustrations and why he might also include a magnified view. Great book! (Waimea College)
