A simple retelling of the Battle of Gate Pa (Pukehinahina) which came under heavy bombardment by British soldiers in 1864Despite having no cannon the Ngaiterangi defenders won the battle. The story focuses on Heni Te Kirikaramu and her brother who left the pa at night to give water to wounded British soldiers. Normally, wounded fighters were killed by the other side.
The battle site is now a suburb of Tauranga
