Friday Classic: See Ya, Simon by David Hill

See Ya, Simon by David Hill

Told from the point of view of his best friend, Nathan, this much loved novel looks at a year in the life of teenager Simon, who suffers from terminal Muscular Dystrophy. Simon is brave, but not at all saint-like. He experiences teenage anxieties and desires, like any other adolescent. This award-winning story is told with real humour (e.g. an hilarious wheelchair incident) but David Hill also imparts a very real sense of tenderness, as in Simon’s poignant question, “What’s it feel like to ride a bike?” I heartily recommend this book to any class from Year 7 upwards.

See Ya Simon is such an inspiring book about a friendship that will never be divided even though one of them has been taken out of the world. It made me cry reading it.
It is an awesome book that everyone should read, especially with a friendship that is nearly
broken, and inspire them to get back again.

This novel is a very heart-warming book that will make you laugh and cry. It makes you think about what life living with a disability must be like. It made me realise that there are many difficult hurdles to overcome when you have a disease and many friendships to be created.
